I optimized the Partner App by streamlining interactions and boosting engagement through innovative solutions. Additionally, I independently designed the Partner Onboarding App, creating a seamless registration process for new partners. Feeling the need for a change, I decided to explore Airbnb for the first time to cure my boredom and plan a getaway. Despite its reputation for offering unique and affordable stays, my initial experience left room for improvement in terms of user satisfaction. This case study seeks to uncover the pain points encountered during my first encounter, propose thoughtful design enhancements, and ultimately elevate the overall user experience for both new and seasoned users of the platform.

To address these pain points, this mini UX case study seeks to thoroughly evaluate and redesign Airbnb's app features. By applying UX principles and leveraging insights gained from user interactions, the goal is to enhance usability, streamline navigation, and improve overall user satisfaction. Through thoughtful redesigns, the aim is to create a more intuitive and user-friendly Airbnb experience, ensuring that users can effortlessly navigate, book, and manage their stays.

In assessing the existing design of the Airbnb app, I identified areas of improvement through a multifaceted approach:

By combining all the insights from my own user journey, posing fundamental questions, and applying heuristic evaluation principles, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the existing design's pain points. The identified areas for improvement will serve as a foundation for a focused redesign effort aimed at delivering a more user-friendly and seamless experience on the Airbnb app.

Following user testing, where participants were shown the existing and redesigned screens without prototypes, valuable insights were gathered regarding the currency-related features. Users expressed the following key points:

Taking these insights to consideration, the subsequent iteration involved relocating the currency-changing feature to the Payment and Payouts screen which will be set as default. This adjustment aligns with the observation that users are less inclined to modify their currency settings frequently.

To address the occasional need for currency variation, a user-friendly solution was implemented. A dropdown menu was strategically placed near the price display, allowing users to effortlessly switch between currencies when desired. This addition not only caters to those who occasionally wish to check prices in different currencies but also maintains a seamless user experience by decluttering the homepage. Meanwhile, the currency will automatically refresh to default currency once user refresh the page.

These refinements aim to strike a balance between user preferences, automation, and accessibility, contributing to an enhanced overall user experience.

Airbnb App - Reducing Session Length and Boosting Conversions through UX Enhancements (Heuristic Evaluation)

Platform -&nbsp;Mobile Android application

Backstory -&nbsp;Raju lives in a small village in Rajasthan. He loves writing stories and has some experience. People even pay him for his work. He likes to write in Hindi, but he can also write in English. Raju doesn't have a laptop, so he uses his phone to write stories. Recently, he found out about Ved. Ved is an AI scriptwriting assistant. He tried it a couple of times on his friend's laptop and was really amazed by it. He found it helpful in overcoming writer’s block and found that it can suggest ideas for stories whenever required. Raju is very excited to use Ved on a daily basis. The only limitation he faces is that Ved is currently only available for desktop usage.

Task - Design a user journey (with UI screens) for the Android app of Ved, targeting users like Raju who want to use Ved on their phones. The journey should start with the user opening the Ved tool on a mobile device and starting to write a 500-word short story while taking help from the AI chat to overcome writer's block, receive plot suggestions, and more. The user then completes the story and shares it with others.

Writers who rely primarily on mobile devices face significant challenges in accessing Ved since it's currently only available on the web. This limitation poses a substantial obstacle to these writers, impeding their capacity to overcome creative hurdles, seek story inspiration, and effectively cultivate their writing skills.
